The Empire State Building & H.E. Ban Ki-moon, UN General Secretary
The UN Global Compact is a corporate social responsibility initiative started by Kofi Annan in 2000. Today, ten years later, the initiative is growing under the wings of the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon. 8000 world corporations applies to the 10 principles and Maxibit Worldwide is one of the proud members since 2007. As the CEO it is a great honor to be invited to New York to participate in the UNGC 10 year Leaders Summit. I’m also happy to note that Sweden is the major nation sponsor of the event. About 1300 world leaders is present and to my surpise the meeting is very action oriented with 130 round tables discussing practical issues and presenting solutions and commitments putting momentum inte to the UNGC development. At the same time as President Obama opens the G-20 meeting in Toronto, the message from the world corporate leaders of the UNGC Leaders Summit is collected and summarized in New York and on Saturday they will be presented at the G-20 in Toronto. The future for the UNGC and for Global CSR really has improved and now faces a real opportunity of making a major difference in the world. Let’s hope it does. We all need it! I’m looking forward to the work at hand. It’s quite simple really; if we all do it – it gets done!

A couple of months ago I got a letter from the president of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon. He wanted me to come to the Big Apple to celibrate the 10 year Leaders Summit of UN Global Compact together with CEO’s and presidents of the UNGC community world wide. The event takes place at the same time as the Swedish Midsummer Feast so I really had to think twise about participating. Not really… of corse I booked the UNGC 10 Year Summit without hesitation. It’s not every day I get a personal invitation from Ban Ki-Moon. I’ll write about the meeting here on my blog during the event. Also a Swedish magazine has asked me to write about it for their big CSR edition in September. I’ll keep you posted.

Just why is Maxibit “The Greener Choice”? Almost every company nowadays claims they are working hard for the environment so how are you to know what’s true and what’re empty words?
Fact #1: Maxibit is the first company in this industry aproved by the United Nations Global Compact.
Fact #2: Maxibit is the only company in this industry elected into the Swedish Governments reference group for Corporate Social Responsibility.
Take a look at this short clip to learn more.
The referens group for Corporate Social Responsibility
As a member of UN Global Compact Maxibit has been asked to participate in the Swedish Governments forum on CSR. The todays meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade Devision, Global Responsibility.
The discusions was mainly about the new directives of OECD for global corporations, ISO26000 and anti corruption.
Also quite interesting, a new project for sharing ideas in regards to CSR was presented; Ideas for Change. Take a look at www.ideasforchange.tv and get inspired.
The idea is to increase the networking factor and help companies implementing best practice, democritize initiatives and put a forum in place for sharing successful projects in regards to CSR.

Environmental act by Coca Cola and Stockholm City
Coca Cola picked Maxibit to supply the portable marketing tools for this event. One reason was the fact that Maxibit is a member of UN Global Compact and the Swedish Reference Group for Social Responsibility.
Another was the quality and versitility of the Maxibit pop-up system: Maxibit Network.
Facts about the event:

Swedish Government, Reference Group for CSR

Today I have been in a meeting at the Swedish Government held by the Swedish CSR-ambassador of Foreign Affairs. The initiative for the reference group, called “Global Responsibility”, consists of companies approved by the UN Global Compact, official authorities, industry and labor organisations.
A very small group of business representatives are invited, mainly the top companies in the Swedish industry, and Maxibit Worldwide AB has been a proud and active part of the group since the start.
One topic of interest discussed was the upcoming new social responsibility standard for sustainable development: ISO 26000.
400 experts from 60 countries has been working for 3-4 years with the document that hopefully will set a new world standard and consensus for social responsibility work not only within corporations but in the whole global community.
The draft of this document is 100 pages and can be downloaded at www.iso.org/sr
Read it and find out if your business community holds the SR standards of the future.

I just got in my mail the annual report from UN Global Compact.
We take the UNGC-work seriously. We do so many things to make your products the most sustainable and ethical displays on the market – The Greener Choice.
There are only 800 companies in the world that qualifies to be part of UN Global Compact, and Maxibit is one of them. These issues should be central to any Premium Brand Companies with a long term business perspective. I consider our membership a key unique selling point.

I thought I’d drop you a line or two about the progress of the Maxibit corporate social responsibility and sustainability programs. We’ve come a long way and we should be proud of the work so far – but we can do more.
We have had an internal conference with one of the most inspiring radical environmental activists from Norway, Frank Hugo Storelv.
We invited him to inspire us and yes, he did. Personally I realized the difference between “taking active interests in environmental issues” and actually “chaining yourself to a hazardous situation”.
Boy, I really think we should all get together and show the world that Maxibit leaders, customers and employees are really doing something. I am looking for a suitable project. If you have any suggestions please let me know.
In the meantime – together we can push the progress we’ve achieved. We are market leaders in sustainable marketing. Maxibit is simply the world’s best portable marketing choice™!
All the best,
Christian Ahlberg
